Senior Lecturer Population Health and Medical Sciences, Diabetes Research Unit Cymru, Swansea University Medical School
Dr Thomas is an epidemiologist specialising in diabetes and eye health. After completing her PhD at Cardiff University school of medicine exploring the epidemiology of diabetic retinopathy and optimal screening intervals, she joined Swansea University Medical School in 2012. She has since continued this research and expanded to explore the issues faced by both people living with diabetes in accessing and clinicians in providing care for diabetic retinopathy. Dr Thomas is also exploring AI using retinal images to predict the risk of other systemic diseases such as Stoke and CVD. She collaborates closely with people with diabetes, screening, diabetologists, ophthalmologists, optometrists and charities.
