Philippa Ryan

Philippa has a PhD in software safety and is a senior research fellow at the Centre for Assuring Autonomy at the University of York. She has worked extensively in industry and academia as an independent software safety advisor and assessor. Most recently she has published work on bias, fairness and responsible use of AI with NHS England, Bradford Teaching Hospitals and medical device manufacturers, particularly around the use of AI-based decision support systems for detecting Type 2 diabetes co-morbidities. She was group chair and editor of the cross-industry guidance “SCSC-153 Safety Assurance Objectives for Autonomous Systems”.
