I am a GP who lives with type1 diabetes. I have experience using carbohydrates as the preferred fuel for the first 20 years and over the last 10 years have used a keto diet as part of a holistic insulin optimisation regimen. I have demonstrated ease of use and safety through experimentation. I recently cycled 1100 miles to St Moritz to give a lecture on sport and type 1 diabetes, looking at low carb as part of multi-fueling over glucose fueling. I have a peer-reviewed paper on the zerofive100 project, which involved running 100 miles over 5 days fully fasted, water only. I run a 5-day residential course for people living with type 1 diabetes, focusing on insulin optimisation across all roots of health, jointly hosted by lived-experience non-medical experts on keto diets in type 1. I will be publishing a practical book for people living with T1 about ketogenic diets next year. I am looking forward to presenting on keto fuelling to a specialist audience.
