Qualified in medicine from Oxford University and St. Thomas' Hospital, trained in diabetes at Leicester, Poole, St Thomas', Exeter and Bristol. 1980 - 2012, consultant physician in diabetes at Northampton General Hospital. Now working as honorary lecturer for the Diabetes Masters at Leicester University. Special interests in diabetes: education, communication and patient empowerment, with emphasis on diabetes in young adults and older people. Since 1986, organised a counselling and empowerment course for health care professionals working in diabetes. This takes place in Ireland and England with an additional on-line course supported by the Open University.
