Andrea Lake
NIHR Clinical Doctoral Research Fellow/DSN,
Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust
Since 2010, I have worked within a joint role in research and clinical practice. I have a leadership role within our local inpatient diabetes service and I still actively work as a Diabetes Inpatient Specialist Nurse. Within my lead research nurse role, I have been involved in more than 20 diabetes trials in various roles from set up through to the dissemination of results.
In 2018, I completed my NIHR pre doctoral fellowship with distinction which led to my latest publication entitled ‘The effect of hypoglycaemia during hospital admission on health‐related outcomes for people with diabetes: a systematic review and meta‐analysis’. I am a member of the Royal College of Nurses, the Diabetes UK Diabetes Study Group for acute care, the Centre for Peri-operative Care diabetes working group and the Joint British Diabetes Society for inpatient care group.
I am currently undertaking an NIHR Clinical doctoral fellowship which I began in July. I have a key interest in the management of inpatient diabetes and the translation of research into clinical practice. This has influenced my project which is focused on the role of the diabetes specialist nurse/ educator in inpatient diabetes management.
