Tony Willis

Clinical Director for Diabetes,
North West London STP

Dr Tony Willis is a GP in Shepherd’s Bush and Clinical Director for Diabetes for the North West London STP. Having qualified in 1992, he initially trained in general medicine before undertaking a PhD in molecular biology at the Institute of Cancer Research and then transitioning to general practice. He is has led the diabetes strategy for the 5 CCG CWHHE Collaborative for the past 3 years, key elements of which have involved reducing variability in care, promoting self-management and prioritising prevention. This work has been highly successful and has already been recognised in a number of awards this year including the Healthcare Transformation Awards, Quality in Care Diabetes Awards and a shortlisting for the HSJ Primary Care Innovation Award.

His work now spans all 8 CCGs in North West London, aiming to improve experience and outcomes for over 130,000 people living with diabetes and similar numbers diagnosed with non-diabetic hyperglycaemia. Much of this revolves around maximising the use of Information Technology and IT platforms both for clinicians and patients to promote change, improve care and reduce health inequalities.
