Person living with Type 1 diabetes
Sara was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1990 aged 3. Whilst studying at university, she realised that the pressures of getting to grips with young adulthood and managing a long- term health condition had collided head on and resulted in her developing an eating disorder. A qualified teacher, with a passion for helping young people reach their potential, Sara now works for NHS Wales, as the National Diabetes Transitional Care Coordinator. Sara combines both her personal experiences and professional career to develop diabetes education, mental health awareness and improving services to better suit the needs of people living with diabetes in Wales. As part of our Diabetes Professional Conference, Sara will be sharing her personal experience.
