Nneka Agbasi

Senior Diabetes Specialist Nurse,
Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust

Nneka Agbasi is a senior diabetes specialist nurse at Enfield Health within Barnet Enfield and Haringey and Mental Health NHS Trust. She comes from an orthopaedics, surgical and district nursing background. She has a BSc in Adult Nursing. She has completed her post-nursing qualification in Nurse Mentorship and Diabetes Care. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Diabetes Nursing and an advisor on the TREND-UK Committee.

Her main interests in diabetes care are health promotion and education. She enjoys teaching and facilitating patients’ self-management, supporting their family members, and supporting community nurses and other healthcare professionals in gaining confidence in the provision of diabetes care.

She has led a successful new pilot project with the support of her team to create and implement a one stop education for newly diagnosed patients living with type 2 diabetes. She has designed a new diabetes programme for student practice nurses and mentored two district nurses into diabetes specialist nurses within the team through an in-house preceptorship programme using the TREND UK competency framework. She has further developed the Health Care Assistant in district nursing and residential care home staff’ Insulin Administration Programme and updates. She has published an article on this topic and a joint written article on managing diabetes in enteral feeding in secondary and primary care. She also assisted in developing the patient leaflets for enteral feeding and diabetes seen in the TREND website under the resource section.
