Dr Elizabeth Martin

GP, Clinical Assistant in the Diabetes Department at St James Teaching Hospital,
NHS England and NHS Improvement

Elizabeth worked as a GP in an inner-city practice in Leeds and has been a GPWSI in Diabetes with the Leeds Community Diabetes Service (LCDS) since its beginning 10 years ago. She currently works as a Clinical Assistant in the Diabetes Department at St James Teaching Hospital and has spent the last eight years working in the Foot Clinic as a key member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Since joining the LCDS, Liz has prioritized supporting colleagues in Primary Care to provide high quality care for their patients via in-house education sessions and locality update meetings. Her experience in the Foot Clinic has fired her enthusiasm in this often neglected area of care. In 2016 she was part of the Leeds team who successfully bid for NHS England Transformation Funding. This money enabled the expansion of the current MDT to provide an outreach into the community, establishing a Foot Protection Service.

Liz has been a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion since 2015 and is a keen supporter of local Patient Groups.
