Understanding diabetic kidney disease

During this presentation we aim to clarify the some of the key issues affecting patients with diabetic kidney disease ( Nephropathy). This complex group of patients require support from the multi-professional team throughout their journey from diagnosis to dialysis and beyond.

Diabetes and Renal teams who work together caring for this group of patients can improve outcomes and we will outline areas where this can be most effective.

Learning outcomes:

To increase knowledge and understanding of:

  • Monitoring of kidney function (NICE guidance)
  • Maintaining kidney function
  • Referral to Renal Team
  • Medicines management (Hypertension, oral glycaemics, cardio vascular risk)
  • Managing diabetes specifically when having haemodialysis
