Sick Day Rules: What to do when you have diabetes & you are ill

Everybody experiences episodes of intercurrent illness, including people with diabetes. Depending on the type and severity of the illness, and the type of diabetes, management of blood glucose levels can be a challenge. This session explains how illness affects glycaemic control and describes the advice to be given to people living with diabetes when they are unwell.

  • Identify people who require insulin treatment
  • Describe the commonly used insulins used in a once-daily regimen
  • Describe correct injection technique and equipment required
  • List the important things people need to know when starting insulin therapy
