Optimising engagement with the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme

Aimed at GPs and GP practice staff, this interactive session will give delegates an overview of the new e-learning module and certificate on the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme for healthcare professionals which is being jointly created with the Royal College of General Practitioners. The module will equip delegates with all the knowledge necessary to refer patients at risk of Type 2 diabetes on to the programme, the first nation-wide programme of its kind which is being doubled in size to treat around 200,000 people annually and has been designed to stop or delay onset of Type 2 diabetes through a range of personalised, evidence-based lifestyle interventions and lasting behaviour change.

Our partners, Diabetes UK, will be jointly leading the session and delivering their key findings on how to engage well with fellow healthcare professionals to increase awareness of the programme and uptake of the e-learning module, and with patients about the programme to encourage uptake, retention and, most importantly, improved outcomes for people at risk of Type 2 diabetes

Learning outcomes:

  • How to make a quality referral on to the programme
  • Who is eligible for the programme
  • How to explain the programme to patients at risk of Type 2 diabetes to encourage uptake and retention
  • What participants will learn on the programme to help them reduce their risk of Type 2 diabetes
