Effective Prescribing in Diabetes (EPID) – a collaborative medicines optimisation project in North Central London
As we consider the initiation of newer medical therapies for people with type 2 diabetes, it is equally important to review the repeat prescribing of older anti-glycaemic agents initiated in the past. A collaborative project in North Central London developed an audit tool and template to help identify and review patients with sub-optimal glycemic control, who were being prescribed a Sulphonyulrea and/or DPP-4 inhibitor. The project facilitated clinicians to review the safety and efficacy of these medications in individuals to ensure historical prescribing remained appropriate. This session will present the methods used to establish the project and the initial results.
