Diabetes Management – Considerations for patients with serious mental health/ learning disability

This workshop aims to highlight the considerations that need to be made when managing patients with a serious mental illness or learning disability who also have diabetes.

Through case studies and group discussion attendees will gain an understanding of some of the complexities that can arise in managing this group of patients.

This workshop is suitable for all health professionals who work with patients with diabetes.

Learning outcomes

Through attendance at this workshop attendees will be able to:

  • Know the risks of premature death and co-morbidity of people living with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) / Learning disability (LD)
  • Understand the difficulties that patients with SMI or LD can have in managing their diabetes
  • Reflect on how the learning from the case studies can impact on their own clinical practice.
