A Podium for Diabetic Feet – Empowering Patients in their Personal Care

Diabetic foot ulceration (DFU) is a serious and frequent consequence of diabetes. If detected too late, it can lead to infections, ulcers and eventually amputations. Research literature suggests that up to 80% of DFUs are preventable by daily screening for the early warning signs of increased temperature of the affected area caused by inflammatory reactions in the foot. This presentation will introduce the Podium – a device for everyday use in the home and podiatry clinic. It empowers patients to take charge of their day-to-day foot care, bringing together patients, families and healthcare professionals in a single holistic caring approach. This will be shown in a demonstration that outlines the usage of the device and the accompanying App and Podiatrist Portal that link the patient to family members and healthcare professionals.

Learning outcomes:

  • Diabetic foot ulceration (DFU) – the underlying facts and figures
  • The science behind the Podium – why temperature monitoring works
  • Self monitoring and patient empowerment – the key to DFU prevention
  • Podium, Podiatrist, Patient and Family – a partnership for prevention
