A guide to managing hypoglycaemia in hospital – updated JBDS guidelines

A presentation of real inpatient case scenarios where hypoglycaemia events have occurred. Delegates will be encouraged to think about what caused the event, whether anything could have been done to prevent it and consider whether the episode was treated correctly. The session will include signposting to national treatment guidelines and will include considering frequency of monitoring, and use of glucagon without prescription for life saving purposes.

Learning outcomes:

  • To be aware of the updated guidelines for managing hypoglycaemia in hospital
  • To understand what products are available to treat hypoglycaemia and when to use them
  • To have some strategies to prevent inpatient hypoglycaemia
  • Understand frequency of monitoring post hypoglycaemia
