Top professor set to spread cardiovascular disease and diabetes knowledge

Top professor set to spread cardiovascular disease and diabetes knowledge
The risk of cardiovascular disease among those with diabetes is high, but can that be changed before it’s too late? According to Professor Wasim Hanif, it can.

And the Professor of Diabetes and Endocrinology is planning to educate others so they too can know the symptoms and how to prevent any long-term damage.

He has done extensive work into the subject of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes and will be passing on his knowledge and findings at a forthcoming webinar, entitled ‘Managing Cardiovascular Risk: Evidence into Practice’ on Thursday, July 23 from 7pm.

It is thought there are more than four million people in the UK who live with type 2 diabetes, but there are many more who are yet to be diagnosed. The condition imposes considerable premature vascular risk on individuals, with relative risks varying by age of diagnosis and ethnicity.

Professor Hanif wants to manage that risk and believes introducing interventions early will lead to better health outcomes.

Professor Hanif is teaming up with Dr Naresh Kanumilli, a GPwSI in Manchester, to take part in an online session called Cardiovascular Risk: Evidence into practice.

It is one of several webinars being hosted by key opinion leaders as part of the DPC Digital Hub, supported by AstraZeneca. The global organisation is leading the way in online education in the absence of face-to-face education amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
