Professor Shakur currently serves as the Professor of Genomics and Precision Cardiovascular Medicine and Director of the Brighton Integrative Genomics Unit at the University of Brighton, where he leads pioneering research at the intersection of AI, multi-omics, and cardiac regeneration.
A distinguished clinician-scientist, Professor Shakur’s career spans the University of Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, and MIT, where he was part of the world-renowned Langer Labs. His lab’s work on AI-based multi-omics integration systems, CRISPR adaptive technologies, and cardiac organogenesis is shaping the future of cardiovascular medicine.
He also serves as the NIHR Chair for Academic Research, MRC Panel Lead for Systems and Population Health, and Editor-in-Chief of the Nature Springer Journal of Precision Health.
