NHS to host exclusive Diabetes Programme at networking lounge at DPC2019

Digital innovation, diabulimia and optimising engagement with the national Prevention Programme will all be addressed by the NHS at a forthcoming diabetes conference.

As already announced the NHS Diabetes Programme has teamed up with Diabetes Professional Care (DPC2019) to share many of its objectives already outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan. It has now unveiled further plans as to what DPC2019 visitors can expect from the organisation.

Among the NHS presentations there will also be a discussion on low calorie diets and whether they can be used to treat obesity and type 2 diabetes, as well as an update on The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.

Over the course of the two-day October show, the NHS Diabetes Programme will also host, for the first time, the NHS Lounge. This unique and interactive space will give DPC2019 visitors a unique overview of each of the core elements of the NHS Diabetes Programme’s work.

The areas it will cover have been zoned into four areas which are the presentation zone for NHS-related talks, the type 2 prevention zone, the digital zone and the treatment and care zone. All areas are open to anyone visiting DPC2019, the UK’s largest, free-to-attend, CPD-accredited conference for healthcare professionals involved in the prevention, treatment and management of diabetes, and its related conditions.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with NHS representatives in the lounge and ask questions.

Matthew Fagg, NHS Diabetes Programme Director at NHS England and NHS Improvement, said: “As outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan, the NHS Diabetes Programme is committed to transforming diabetes care and delivering the tools and services needed to help more people to live better, longer.

“The NHS Lounge will give DPC2019 visitors the unique opportunity to learn about how we’re making those commitments a reality with our partners across the health system, share best practice and hear the experts present the latest findings in an informal, interactive setting.”

DPC2019 and the NHS Diabetes Programme worked closely to design a broad and varied schedule of invaluable learning sessions, delivered by national leaders and diabetes experts to help healthcare professionals from the diabetes multi-disciplinary team deliver the very best in diabetes care.

The NHS Diabetes Programme is a joint initiative from NHS England and NHS Improvement, Public Health England and Diabetes UK.

DPC founder Maggie Meer said: “We share many of the same objectives as the NHS Diabetes Programme. We’re all about helping healthcare professionals to improve outcomes for people living with diabetes, harnessing the power of pioneering digital technologies as a way to support them and promoting an integrated approach to tackling type 2 diabetes prevention. We look forward to the organisation hosting the NHS Lounge and explaining in more depth about its long-term goals.”

More information about the conference sessions and lounge activities that the NHS Diabetes Programme will be hosting at DPC2019 can be found here. Registration for the event is free for all healthcare professionals, commissioners and service leads. Space can be booked online or via phone on 023 8081 1551.
