DPC2019 supports Diabetes Prevention Week

Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week

The Prevention & Obesity in Practice stream will return to the main conference programme at Diabetes Professional Care 2019 (DPC2019) this October.

Running on both days of the conference (29-30 October), the dedicated main conference theatre will focus on the most vital topics in diabetes prevention, weight management, and obesity with a range of CPD-accredited sessions covering everything from national guidelines and care pathways, to clinical skills and practical advice.

In support of Diabetes Prevention Week (1-7 April 2019), we bring you an exclusive sneak peek at just some of the sessions that delegates will be able to attend for free:

  • Diabetes Prevention Programme – The Digital Pilot Panel
  • Surgical treatment of T2 diabetes and obesity
  • Risk weight gain explained – turning risk factors into action on weight reduction
  • Prevention in pregnancy and pre-conception care
  • T2 prevention in Primary Care – leading a local Prevention Programme
  • Diabetes prevention in high-risk ethnicity groups

New Clinic at DPC2019

DPC2019’s expanded conference programme will also include the launch of a brand-new specialist workshop area – the DPC Nutrition & Lifestyle Clinic.

The unique DPC Nutrition & Lifestyle Clinic programme will give healthcare professionals the opportunity to gain hands-on, practical skills to ensure that they are better armed with the knowledge they need to advise and support their patients with diet, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle interventions.

The topics our experienced line-up of speakers will be covering include:

  • T2 diabetes meal plans
  • Counting workshop – carbs, cals, protein, fat, and more!
  • Food and diets explained
  • The role of exercise in achieving glycaemic targets
  • Lifestyle Coaches as members of the diabetes MDT
  • Dieticians’ role in diabetes management

Maggie Meer, who founded DPC in 2015 and has type 2 diabetes herself said, “From the very beginning my mission has been to provide a free-to-attend conference and exhibition which focuses on the most pressing issues in diabetes care. There are some exciting new developments in the field of type 2 diabetes prevention, and we felt we needed to provide all healthcare professionals with a forum where the latest research, real-world techniques and best practices are shared. We know type 2 diabetes is on the rise, so we feel it’s imperative that everyone from the multi-disciplinary team has access to the very latest clinical guidance.

“It’s not just prevention where we’ve seen changes, but also remission. In the last couple of years, we’ve seen a major shift in the latest medical research, which has shown the effectiveness of diet in reversing type 2 diabetes. These exciting new findings will also form part of our dedicated DPC Nutrition & Lifestyle Clinic, which we are excited to be launching at this year’s show.”
