DPC Virtual’s Host is Unveiled

DPC Virtual’s Host is Unveiled

“This year is more important than ever,” says Dr David Strain, referring to DPC Virtual which kicks off in just over two weeks’ time.

“The whole COVID pandemic has completely changed the way we work and people are afraid, there’s no other way of putting it.

“Diabetes has been flagged as a key risk factor for COVID, so therefore we need to ensure our patients are putting optimal diabetes control in place to make sure we can reduce their risk from the disease, as well as all the other comorbidities that can come with diabetes.”

The Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Exeter Medical School, has a starring role in the online show this year.

“I have the pleasure of being the conductor to the DPC orchestra, as I’ll be hosting the virtual show, ensuring people know where the sessions are that they really can’t miss,” he says, excitedly.

An honorary consultant in medicine for the older adult and head of the academic department for healthcare for older adults, Dr Strain says this year’s conference will be integral to helping healthcare professionals continue to find their way in the new technological approach to seeing people with diabetes.

“DPC Virtual’s theme this year is ‘we’re all in this together’. We’re currently going through these very strange COVID times, where we’ve having to learn a whole new way of participating in healthcare and understanding the research that goes alongside it.

“There’s going to be a huge focus on making sure we can still deliver the best care possible to all of the people living with diabetes, while maintaining the safety of both the practitioner and those individuals.

“DPC has got this huge pragmatic feel to it because it’s got the ability to translate high powered research into what it actually means for frontline staff and their patients.

“Having gone online, DPC has been designed to work round people’s busy schedules and we’re fully expecting thousands of people to be logging on. For those who can’t make the live sessions, they can access all content via the online portal which is a catch-up service. And

the best thing is, both the live show and the online portal content can be accessed from the comfort of your own home.”

DPC2020 Virtual will run on the 11, 12 and 13 November with each day’s programme running from 8.30am to 2pm and then in the evening sessions will start back up again from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The three days are open for all healthcare professionals and will be suitable for all levels of experience and specialisms – from policy-level through to senior clinicians, primary care, community care and those that have just started their careers in relation to diabetes.

DPC has also teamed up with the DRWF to run a patient education and information virtual event on Saturday, November 14 which healthcare professionals are also welcome to attend.
