A. Menarini Diagnostics has officially launched GlucoMen iCan

A. Menarini Diagnostics has officially launched GlucoMen iCan, a third-generation continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system, in the UK. GlucoMen iCan is designed to provide people with diabetes real time, accurate glucose insights without the need for routine fingerprick tests.

The GlucoMen iCan uses a small, discreet sensor to track glucose levels in the interstitial fluid. The sensor, which can be worn for up to 15 days, automatically sends readings via Bluetooth every three minutes to a smartphone app offering users a seamless experience, with the benefit of the transmitter storing data for the whole sensor wear time. Meaning that whether you are near your phone or not, you can rely on data being available when you return.

The system boasts a range of features aimed at enhancing diabetes management:

  • High Accuracy: With a clinically validated MARD of 8.71%, the GlucoMen iCan provides reliable data across various glucose ranges, from hypoglycaemia to hyperglycaemia.
  • Interference Resistance: The sensor's GDH-FAD technology is used to provide reliable results, even when in the presence of common substances like paracetamol or Vitamin C, and is also resistant to oxygen interference.
  • User-Friendly App: The iCan app provides detailed trend arrows, multiple day views, and reports, allowing users to easily share data with their healthcare team and caregivers.

The GlucoMen iCan CGM is now available in the UK with its small and lightweight design, along with a hypoallergenic adhesive, ensuring it is discreet and comfortable for daily activities, including showering and swimming.

This new CGM provides a valuable tool for anyone managing diabetes. For those with Type 1 diabetes, it provides continuous, actionable data to help make timely decisions about insulin dosages and activity. For those with Type 2 diabetes, it can offer deeper insights into how diet, exercise, and other lifestyle factors impact glucose levels, helping to improve overall health outcomes.
