DPC2018 exhibitor BHR tells us about its technically advanced point of care products and solutions, which enable healthcare professionals to rapidly diagnose and monitor diabetes

What does your company do?

BHR specialises in delivering the most technically advanced point of care (POCT) diagnostic products and solutions to healthcare organisations throughout the UK. This enables health care professionals to rapidly diagnose, or monitor and better enable the management of today’s most prevalent diseases and conditions.

Why is your company working in diabetes care?

Diabetes is very common among the British Asian population, with one of the directors being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1983. The complications caused by diabetes develop over a period of time and are often recognised only after the damage has been done. This led to the company trying to find ways to diagnose and hence manage diabetes as early as possible to reduce/delay the onset of these complications.

How is your company improving diabetes care?

BHR works with both the NHS and private healthcare organisations in improving the diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes through the use of POCT. Using POCT allows clinical staff to discuss HbA1c results directly with the patient, therefore saving time, money and improving patient engagement.

What products/services/innovations have you got in the pipeline?

BHR provides the A1cNOW+ product to the UK market. This is the only HbA1c kit that is CE marked for professional and self-testing. This allows patients to test their HbA1c at home, which can be a useful tool to help manage their condition and enhance their annual review. Also, BHR is providing the A1cNOW+ HbA1c kit to NHS hospitals, where parents of patients who cannot easily attend diabetic clinics test their children’s HbA1c levels at home. This HbA1c result can then be communicated to the diabetic specialist team through a video consultation suite.

What are you hoping to achieve through your support of DPC2018 and presence at the show?

BHR is always interested in innovations in the field of diabetes care. Attending and supporting DPC2018 allows us to interact with other healthcare professionals with similar views, and helps us share our knowledge of POCT with a wider audience.

How do you best like to spend your time when you’re not helping to improve the lives of people with diabetes?

Business-wise, BHR works with charities like Boundaries for Life, which screens people at cricket matches for diabetes, cholesterol and mouth cancers, or at churches, temples and mosques. Most of our home time is spent with the family, enjoying different cuisines and movies.
