Professor McCann will summarise the risk of heart failure in people with diabetes and describe common cardiac abnormalities associated with T2D and their clinical relevance.  He will focus on cardiac remodelling detected by cardiac MRI and sex-specific changes in myocardial blood flow and the association with clinical risk factors and discuss potential treatments for progression to overt heart failure.
  • Understand risk factors for heart failure in the general population and in those with diabetes;
  • Understand the common phenotypes of heart failure
  • Be able to describe the common cardiac abnormalities seen in patients with T2D
  • Appreciate that there are sex-specific differences in changes in myocardial blood flow in T2D and that risk factors are likely to vary between sexes.
  • Understand the potential lifestyle and pharmacological treatments for prevention/treatment of cardiac remodelling in T2D.
Speakers
Gerry McCann, Professor of Cardiac Imaging and Hon. Consultant Cardiologist - University of Leicester
