Cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes remission
The cause of T2D has been identified to be excess fat in the liver, excess VLDL secretion from the liver and excess fat supply to the beta cells. Dietary weight loss of 10-15kg not only returns plasma glucose to normal but also normalises cardiovascular risk. The latter has been demonstrated not only by CV risk scores but also from outcomes of longer follow up studies. The return of hepatic fat metabolism to normal removes the excess risk of cardiovascular disease in T2D of less than 6 years duration.
- 1. To understand the pathophysiology of T2D
- 2. To understand the impact of 10-15kg weight loss on hepatic lipid metabolism and beta cell function
- 3. To learn how this new knowledge can be applied to benefit your patients.
